HP Launches Spectre 13, The ‘World’s Thinnest Laptop’

HP has launched what it claims to be the world’s thinnest laptop as it launches its most premium product to date.

Unveiled at the prestigious New York Times International Luxury Conference in Versailles, the Spectre 13 is only 10.4mm thick, putting it ahead of the likes of Apple’s 13.2mm MacBook and Dell’s 15.2mm XPS 13.

However, HP’s offering also comes packed some seriously powerful hardware, including the latest Intel I processors and Bang & Olufsen sound system, yet all weighing in at just over 1.11kg.

Slimline

Built from carbon fibre and featuring copper accents to give it a luxurious, jewellery-like feel, the Spectre 13 sports a 13.3 inch Full HD IPS edge-to-edge display.

Inside, there’s a choice between a 6th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, along with options of RAM up to 8GB and storage up to 512GB.

The super-thin design also features a new hybrid battery which is split into two thinner pieces, allowing for such a slimline build, but HP says it delivers the same wattage as a single battery for up to 9 and half hours of battery life.

There’s also USB-C connectivity via three included ports, along with a newly-developed hyperbaric cooling system that uses a pair of fans to create “positive pressure” to push warm air out of the rear of the laptop.

The Spectre 13 will cost from $1,169.99 (£827.19) when it launches on HP’s official site on April 25 in the US, with a UK release date and price hopefully available soon.

And those customers looking for an extra bit of sparkle can also shell out for one of two limited edition designs featuring diamonds and 18K gold, which will be auctioned at the Cannes Film Festival in May, with the proceeds going to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

“The HP Spectre is the thinnest notebook in the world, and unlike the majority of other super thin PCs on the market, this laptop doesn’t compromise power or features,” said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, consumer personal systems, HP Inc.

“A beautiful Full HD edge-to-edge display, Intel Core i processors coupled with Bang & Olufsen sound and a sexy and thin design, HP amazing engineers set a new standard with the all new Spectre.”
