Data-protection software maker Bocada has added a product for those struggling in the virtual IT world with the introduction of a VM monitoring software package.

Bocada Vision provides insight into the data-protection operations of virtual environments. Users can monitor backup methods, performance, success and failures, problem and resource management, virtual environment recovery, configuration and storage usage reports and errors to help minimise the complexity that virtualisation brings to backup and recovery operations.

Intelligent VM recovery

Complexity in management and deployment is the top problem that slows the installation of new virtualised systems, according to analytics firms such as Enterprise Strategy Group, Forrester Research, and IDC.

Bocada Vision addresses issues of VM recoverability by providing insight into whether backups are successful and where recovery points are, the company said. It tells users what resources are being used to protect VMs and whether they are optimised while detailing the performance impact of protecting VMs.

Bocada, which created the Data Protection Service Management (DPSM) model, is known for its Prism product, a storage software package aimed to help users get through the complicated, multiphase DPSM process.

Prism is designed expressly for backup service providers, MSPs and software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendors, as well as user organisations focused on delivering reliable data-protection services to internal or external customers.

Even though it is designed as a standalone product, Bocada Vision can also be fully integrated with Bocada Prism to provide total physical and virtual protection of a user’s entire backup infrastructure, the company said.

Bocada Vision will be generally available in the next few weeks with pricing established by VM instance. Go here to register for a Webinar on the challenges of virtual backups featuring Bocada Enterprise Strategy Group senior analyst Lauren Whitehouse.
