Tech Club: What Has Tech City Ever Done For IT?

The government has lavished its hopes on tech start-ups as a way to boost Britain’s economy. But are start-ups in Britain actually doing much good for the average IT department? TechWeekEurope is doing some research and holding an evening meeting in London’s Tech City to find out.

Tech Club, our networking wing for IT professionals, now has around 700 members, and we are going to the heart of Britain’s tech start-up community to explore whether the scene really does benefit our members. On 17 July we will be meeting near Old Street (also known as Silicon Roundabout) for an evening of drinking, networking and discussion.

Start-ups: hype or heroes?

To come along, you’ll need to be a member of Tech Club (it’s easy to sign up and free), and also to answer a few questions in a brief survey designed to give us an idea of whether you love start-ups, or see them as irrelevant to your life.

Obviously, given the location, we expect to have some start-up people there to argue their corner.

Tech Club has been going for six months, and already has hundreds of members. As well as invites to informal evening meetings, membership will give you access to research, industry offers and exclusive  briefings.

Our last meeting saw us discussing what makes a successful IT project. If you know the answer, and have a good project under your belt, then consider entering our Tech Success Awards.
