Google’s Nexus 6 ‘To Be Released This Month’

The next version of Google’s critically-acclaimed smartphones, the Nexus 6, will be unveiled before the end of the month, according to reports.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, several sources confirmed that the device should arrive within the next few weeks, exactly a year since its predecessor, the Nexus 5, was released.

As suggested by reportedly leaked images of the device revealed last week, the Nexus 6 will feature a 5.9in HD screen, placing it in competition with the likes of Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4.

This marks a significant step-up from the Nexus 5’s 5in screen, and signals that Google is aware of the growing popularity of phablet devices, which typically includes anything over 5.5in.

The sources also said that the Nexus 6 will be made by Motorola Mobility, Google’s former in-house manufacturing group, which is currently in the process of being sold to Chinese manufacturer Lenovo.

Google has previously employed a series of different manufacturers to make the previous Nexus devices, which include tablets as well as smartphones, with HTC, Asus, Samsung, and LG, which made Google’s last two generations smartphones, the Nexus 4 and 5, all producing products for the company.

HTC has also reportedly been signed up to produce the next generation of Google’s tablet devices, reportedly called the Nexus 9.

Previous leaks reporting to be of the Nexus 6 has said that the device will feature a 5.9in 2560×1440 QHD display and will be powered by a next-generation 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 3GB of RAM.

Running on the yet-to-be-announced Android L operating system, it is also reported to come with wireless charging, a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation, and a “3200+ mAh” battery which should offer all-day battery life.

If previous devices are anything to go by, the Nexus 6 should be extremely competitively priced, as Google looks to attract consumers away from rivals such as Apple and Samsung.
