Geeksphone Revolution Lets Users Dual-Boot Android And Firefox OS

The Geeksphone Revolution is now available in the UK via Amazon, allowing users to choose between Android and Firefox OS, or any other community-based mobile operating system, without voiding any warranty.

The Spanish manufacturer claims users can switch between two operating systems with “one click” thanks to the MultiOS technology included in the handset, which costs £197, and has also launched in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The device is marketed as a “high end” smartphone and is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor, which Geeksphone claims is faster than a comparable ARM-based chip because of Intel’s hyperthreading technology.

The Revolution also has a 4.7-inch display, an eight megapixel camera with flash, 4GB of storage that can be expanded by up to 32GB with a MicroSD card slot, and 1GB of RAM.

Geeksphone was the first European manufacturer to create a device running Android and has long been a supporter of Firefox OS, having created the first developer handsets in 2013, which sold out in hours.

The company has also joined forces with pro-privacy communications provider Silent Circle to create Blackphone, which unveiled its first PrivatOS-powered handset at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in in February, promising secure phone calls that are protected against the intrusion of hackers and government agencies.

There were also a number of Firefox OS-related announcements at the show as Mozilla ramps up its efforts to bring the HTML5-based platform to all levels of devices in 2014, with ZTE and Alcatel revealing a host of smartphones alongside the Alcatel Fire 7 tablet in Barcelona.
