Norwegian web browser Opera has continued its rollout of free virtual private network (VPN) features to users, adding the VPN functionality to its browser for iPhones and iPads.
Opera VPN for iOS brings virtual private network functionality to Apple devices, allowing users to workaround geo-resrictions and firewalls.
When Opera VPN is activated on iPhones or iPads, it also removes ad-tracking cookies that follow users around the web, further increasing your online privacy, said Opera.
“The same goes for video-streaming sites. With the new Opera VPN app, we help people to break down the barriers of the web and enjoy the internet like it should be.”
VPN provider SurfEasy was acquired by Opera last March. Today’s news come as Opera introduced a VPN to its latest desktop browser last in April, followed by the introduction of adblocking to its Android browser.
Native ad-blocking is now also a feature of the stable version of desktop Opera and the company asserts it is 45 percent faster than Google Chrome – the world’s most popular web browser – with third party ad blocking extensions.
“Opera is the first browser company to offer a native ad blocker across devices,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera.
With today’s release, Opera is also expanding the location of the virtual VPN to more countries. Singapore and The Netherlands have been added to the virtual list, alongside the existing locations of the USA, Canada, and Germany.
