Plusnet Suffers Major Internet Outage

Thousands of households across the UK were left without Internet access this morning following a major outage at broadband provider Plusnet.

The outage lasted several hours as the company’s engineers attempted to fix the unspecified problem, with Plusnet’s Help Twitter account saying earlier this morning that, “There has been a service outage” that affected its entire network.

The problem now appears to have been fixed, with the Plusnet Help Twitter account saying that users simply need to refresh their web pages to get going again.

Outage

“Since early this morning we’ve experienced an outage which affected our phone and broadband service as well as our website,” a Plusnet spokesperson confirmed.

“We’ve worked throughout the night to resolve this and have made a lot of progress with most of our customers now up and running. However we still have a few issues which we’re working to solve as soon as possible. We would like to sincerely apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”

The company’s Twitter account went on to apologise to customers, adding that, “our engineers are still investigating the issue as a maximum priority”.

It seems that some customers were able to overcome the outage by manually resetting their routers, with Plusnet itself providing customers with a link on Twitter that gave advice on rebooting.

Sheffield-based Plusnet was founded in 1997 before being bought by BT in 2006, where it operates as a separate business. It currently offers services to 750,000 homes and businesses, as well as operating Vodafone home broadband and John Lewis broadband services.
