EE Widens Its 4G Flock With Low-Cost Jay Tablet

EE is releasing another cut-price 4G-enabled device as it looks to shift more LTE subscriptions, in the form of the 7.85 inch EE Jay tablet.

Weighing in at 350g, the EE Jay runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and is powered by a 64-bit 1GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory – although this can be expanded by an additional 32GB with a MicroSD card.

This make the Jay underpowered compared to similarly-sized tablets on the market, but the impressive 3,600mAh battery should give it enough power for nearly a full day’s use.

There’s also a 5 megapixel rear camera that comes with built-in auto focus, as well as a 2 megapixel front camera for capturing selfies and video chats.

EE hopes its range of cut price devices will encourage customers to consume more 4G data, boosting revenues.

The BT subsidiary is the UK’s largest LTE operator in terms of customers and coverage and plans to ensure its 4G network will cover 95 percent of the UK‘s landmass by the end of the decade

“The Jay from EE offers the perfect blend of style and smart performance at an affordable price point,” Sharon Meadows, EE’s director of devices commented. “With double speed 4G on our superfast network, it really does offer one of the best value tablet experiences that will keep users connected on the move”.

The Jay is available from today for £119.99 for pay as you go customers, or from monthly deals starting at £16 per month with an upfront cost of £29.99 for those who’d prefer a contract.
