Photos claiming to be of the rumoured Motorola X Phone have been posted by Twitter use @evleaks, who has previously revealed information about the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Nokia Lumia 920 ahead of their respective releases.
The images show a full touchscreen Android device with a Motorola logo, with one blurred photo of the rear of the device showing a serial number with the word ‘XFON’ visible.
9to5Google has lent some credibility to the images, claiming they are in line with what it has heard about the smartphone, which could be revealed at the Google I/O Developer Conference later this month.
It has been suggested that the smartphone would be available in up to 25 different colours, but it is believed that Motorola will offer different coloured protective plates, opening up a potentially lucrative market for Motorola if the phone is successful.
The Motorola X Phone is being touted as a potential successor to the Droid RAZR or RAZR M and parent company Google will hope that it gains traction with consumers given that it paid £8 billion for the smartphone manufacturer last year.
It was widely believed that Google acquired Motorola for its vast patent portfolio, but it has so far failed to convert this into leverage against its rivals following a number of lawsuit defeats.
Things have since become worse for the search giant, with the European Union notifying Motorola that it could be facing antitrust charges in relation to its conduct in seeking a court injunction against Apple in Germany last year.
The EU will determine whether Motorola’s use of standards essential patents (SEP) in the case amount to an abuse of a dominant position.
