Motorola Likely To Launch Intel Smartphone On September 18

Invitations to a product launch in London next month, suggest the possibility of an Intel smartphone from Google-owned Motorola.

The invite, which features an Intel logo, reads “Let us take you to the edge” and it is speculated that the Razr M, the first Motorola Intel smartphone, is the subject of the invitation

The Google-owned company would not confirm to TechWeekEurope whether or not this was the case, saying only that it had an agreement with Intel and that all would be revealed on 18 September.

Motorola Intel Smartphone

Earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Motorola Mobility and Intel announced that the two companies were entering into a “multi-year, multi-device strategic relationship,” along with Lenovo which has released an Intel-based smartphone in China.

Only one Intel smartphone has been released in the UK so far, the Orange San Diego, which was released exclusively on the network in May. The move represented Intel’s first foray into the UK market, with the smartphone free on a £15.50 a month contract.

Smartphones are seen as an increasingly important battleground for Intel as it struggles to deal with declining PC shipments. Intel’s Mike Bell told TechWeekEurope in June that although he did not envisage a day where mobile was more important to the company than PCs, it intended to be a major player in the mobile market and wanted to get its chips into the majority of mobile devices.
