HEG Data Centre Re-Opens In Leeds

Privately-owned virtualisation provider Host Europe Group (HEG) opened its refitted data centre in Leeds last week, with a promised Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.27.

The site was re-opened by HEG’s non-executive chairman, former BBC Director General Lord John Birt (below) and although a PUE of 1.27 is already impressive, HEG promised the £4.2 million refit will allow it to do even better as the site gets underway.

Efficiency drive

“Our Leeds data centre is one of the most innovative and efficient facilities in Europe,” said Matt Mansell, group managing director of Host Europe Group. “Having a facility of this specification means we can continue to offer services with a reduced environmental footprint and lower overheads.”

HEG says it has a “large” staff in Leeds data centre, and will continue to invest in skilled workers from the region. Being located in Leeds also gives the company lower building costs, high power reliability and great connectivity, HEG said.

“Right from the start of this project, moving the new facility away from Leeds was never an option. The city has everything we would look for, from a skilled workforce to the right year-round temperature that allows us to run such an environmentally friendly and effective data centre. We will continue to hire additional specialist staff as we create new roles to support our additional capacity; I’m proud that our business has such a positive impact on the local economy of Leeds.” said Mansell.
