British smartphone company Wileyfox has revealed the Swift 2 and Swift 2 Plus as follow-ups to the original Swift that debuted last year.
Firmly targeted at the budget smartphone market with SIM-free prices for the Swift 2 and the Swift 2 Plus weighing in at £159.99 an £189.99 respectively, the brace of handsets still feature near-field communication (NFC) capabilities and a fingerprint sensor.
A 13MP can be found on the rear of the handset with an 8MP front-facing camera competing the photography hardware. It squeezes its hardware into an aluminium chassis that looks to offer a step-up in build quality of its predecessor.
On the software side, it uses a customised version of the Cyanogen 13.0 mobile operating system based on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
With the Swift 2 Plus, adopting a similar nomenclature to Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus, the specifications are fairly similar with the display rather confusingly staying the dame as the Swift 2. However, the Plus model has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage; arguably not offering much more over the Swift 2 , but then the premium for extra memory and storage is relatively low.
The smartphone arena is a competitive one at all corners of the market, with major brands like Samsung and Sony offering premium and budget takes of their handsets. While Wileyfox is tackling the very low-end of the market, it will still meet competition from the likes of the Moto G4, a well-received budget smartphone that offers a solid spec for rather little money.
Wileyfox still has the Spark phone as its most budget handset, starting at £90 but still offering a reasonable specification for the price.
