Contactless payments just got an injection of high-street style thanks to a new partnership between Barclaycard and Topshop.
The fashion brand has revealed it will now be selling a range of contactless payment accessories at its stores, powered by Barclaycard’s bPay technology, which will allow payments of up to £30 without the need to enter a PIN.
The twelve new Topshop x bPay items (pictured below), includes wristbands, smartphone cases, key chains and stickers, will be available two distinct fashion ranges in stores and online from November 17, with prices ranging from £15-32.
“The collaboration shows how the worlds of fashion and technology can combine to create a stylish and easy new way for people to pay using contactless, for everyday things – be it a morning coffee, a new lipstick or a bus trip across town.”
Barclaycard first began rolling out bPay-powered accessories to consumer earlier this year, launching three devices – a wristband, fob and sticker, to allow contactless payments at over 300,000 locations across the UK.
Users can top up funds to their wallet using the mobile app, online through a brand new portal, or set their account to top-up automatically when their balance falls below a pre-set level.
Topshop’s launch is the latest in a series when fashion and technology have come together in recent months, as consumers increasingly demand more and more connected technology.
Back in September, Barclaycard teamed up with high-end menswear brand Lyle & Scott for the release of ‘The Contactless Jacket’ which came with a bPay chip inserted into the cuff, meaning the wearer can pay for purchases up to £30 just by holding their wrist over the contactless reader.
Barclaycard has even dabbled in launching its own wearable bPay devices, having last December announced the trial of prototype gloves that will allow shoppers to pay for their in-store purchases or travel journey with just a swipe of their hand.
