O2 Offers Free Cloud Storage And Unlimited Space For £5

O2 is offering its customers 8GB of free cloud storage and unlimited space for £5 a month, promising secure access to files, photos and media as well as the ability to backup and restore personal data if a device is lost, stolen or damaged.

Users download an application onto their PC, tablet or smartphone and are even able to stream audio and video directly and can share files with other people.

Both pay monthly and pay-as-you-go users are eligible for O2 Store and Share, which also has £2 a month service, offering 32GB.

O2 cloud storage

“Our mobiles are now interwoven into every element of our daily lives and customers are storing more and more meaningful content on their devices,” said Nina Bibby, marketing and consumer director at O2.

“From pictures of family, to the songs they love, to the contact details of new friends – much of what is stored on your smartphone, tablet, PC, and laptop is irreplaceable. We are launching O2 Store & Share to offer our customers the peace of mind that we will protect the data they store, and that they will be able to access it wherever and whenever they choose.”

O2 is using a third party cloud platform to power the service and says all data is kept within the UK and Ireland. Apple, Google, Dropbox and Box all offer free and paid cloud storage services, although Microsoft’s OneDrive no longer offers unlimited space with users restricted to 1TB.

The space is so competitive, Canonical shut down its Ubuntu One platform last year, claiming the increasing amount of free storage promised by its rivals meant it was simply unsustainable to remain the market.
