Apple Watch Debuts With 3,000 Apps

The Apple Watch is now officially commercially available in the UK, although don’t expect to be able to buy one in an Apple Store just yet.

The company has been keen to avoid the snaking queues that have greeted previous product launches by selling the device online and in boutiques and departments stores like Selfridges in London.

Pre-orders for the eagerly anticipated device went opened last month, but only some will be fulfilled on launch day. It had been thought others would have to wait until June to get their hands on their shiny new toy, but it has now been suggested more deliveries will be made before then. More than a million pre-orders are believed to have been placed.

The Apple Watch store has also gone live, boasting more than 3,000 apps, according to the Wall Street Journal. These include offerings from the likes of Twitter, Evernote and the NBA as well as banking apps from the likes of Barclays and groceries from Ocado. Many of the applications work with an iPhone, which must be paired with the Apple Watch for many functions to work.

The Apple Watch was first revealed to the world last September, and is Apple’s first new product category since the iPad, and the first since the death of Steve Jobs. It is also the first device totally designed by Sir Jonathan Ive.

There are three different versions (or collections) of Watch, each available in two sizes and two colours, and a variety of bracelet options. Prices start from £299 but rise to £13,000 for the most premium models.
