Six Nokia Tablets And Smartphones Set For October Launch – Report

Nokia will reportedly show off as many as six new mobile devices, including its first ever tablet, at an event in Abu Dhabi next month, its first product launch since it was announced that Microsoft had agreed a deal to purchase the Finnish smartphone manufacturer for £4.6 billion.

The last smartphone to be announced by Nokia was the Nokia Lumia 1020, which is equipped with a 41 megapixel camera, but according to the Wall Street Journal, Nokia will reveal both high-end Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone and an S40-powered lower end handsets, presumably as part of the Asha range.

Nokia tablet imminent?

Also set for an official unveil is a Windows RT-powered tablet codenamed ‘Sirius’, with recent reports suggesting Nokia was working a 10.1-inch tablet powered by a 2.15GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 32 GB of storage.

Any tablet would directly compete with Nokia’s new parent company, with Microsoft announcing new versions of the Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface earlier this week.

Rumours also suggest the Nokia Lumia 929 will make its debut at the event, while the six-inch Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet has also been touted as a possibility. It has been thought Nokia would make an announcement earlier this month, but opted to delay the event due to the impending Microsoft takeover.

As part of the agreement, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is set to step down from his position to take up an interim role at Nokia, before moving to a new job at his former employer.

Not everyone is happy that he is entitled to a £16 million payoff, but Elop has said he can’t agree to forgo the money because he is in the process of a divorce, and half of the money is not his.
