MWC 2012: Samsung Unveils 10.1 Inch Galaxy Tab 2

Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona today.

The 10.1 inch tablet follows the announcement of its seven-inch sibling earlier this month and will be available to buy in the UK from March with a worldwide launch following shortly after.

Two of a kind

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is largely similar to its stablemate but has a greater battery capacity and a larger screen. Both tablets come with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a three megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera for video calls. Both will have eight to 32 GB of memory, with another 32 GB available through a microSD slot.

Both devices will be available in 3G and WiFi versions, and both will run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), the first tablets to use the mobile operating system. As part of the upgraded interface, new Galaxy Tabs will feature Face Unlock facial recognition software and voice call functionality.

However, the new 10 inch tablet is 243 grammes heavier than its seven-inch counterpart, while its bigger display can support a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, and its 7,000 mAh will afford the user a couple more hours of work or entertainment.

“Two years ago, Samsung Galaxy Tab began to offer customers more possibilities on the go. Since then, Samsung has actively enhanced our tablet line-up with several tablets in different sizes,” said JK Shin, president of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung. “The new Galaxy Tab 2 will provide people with delighted multimedia experience and allow efficient communication.”

Samsung will hope that their new tablets will not attract as much attention from Apple as their predecessors.
