Google Pays Angry Android App Developers

Google has agreed to pay a number of upset Android app developers, who had complained they were owed plenty of money from the tech giant.

A significant number of developers kicked off a forum discussion earlier this month saying they had not been paid on the typical March pay day.

Google responded late last week, sending an email to the affected parties, saying it was aware of the issue and funds should reach their accounts soon.

‘Well done Google’

“We have worked to resolve this, and payouts were initiated on 15 March 2012.  However, your bank may take up to three additional business days to register the payout in your account,” a Google employee said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience you may have experienced and appreciate your understanding.”

Messages on the forum appear to have confirmed Google has paid out. One developer from the UK said “the money is finally in my bank account.”

Yet some developers remain angry. On 17 March, one particularly irate user said they had not received payment and 10 percent of transactions were “consistently declined.”

“Google, you’re our payment processor, you’re supposed to deal with fraud and not decline almost a single transaction,” they said. “You take a 30 percent cut already, you have no right to take another 10 just to avoid dealing with fraud. Oh and the Android Market ‘internal error’… how many orders cancelled due to one of those do you guys get? Well done Google.”

At the time of publication, Google had not responded to those specific criticisms.

Earlier this month, Google folded the Android Market, Google Music and the Google eBookstore into its Google Play service. It is hoping to up its game against the likes of Apple’s App Store and Amazon’s Appstore for Android.

  • i am trying to open an android app developer account and have paid the $25 to Google Wallet but can proceed no further. This is apparently a 'Known Issue' and emails will only be sent to people who have a new unknown problem. I clicked to register I had this problem also.Since then I have received no confirmation back and have no way of contacting anyone. So -- REALLY -- is this legit? You pay $25 and that's it. Who can trust a company to sell on your behalf if this is how you get treated?

If anyone knows how to solve this problem please reply.
