BlackBerry 10.1 Update Announced For BlackBerry Z10

BlackBerry has announced that it will roll out BlackBerry 10.1 to BlackBerry Z10 smartphones over the next few weeks, bringing a number of camera, communication and usability improvements.

Support for PIN-to-PIN messages has been improved in the Blackberry Hub, while it is now easier to view emails that have been sent as attachments to other messages.

Users can now create custom notifications for different accounts by applying different ringtones, vibrations and LED light settings and an HDR (high dynamic range) shooting mode should make it easier to take quality photos in low light with the camera.

Fine cursor control is another new addition and promise to make typing and editing messages much easier. Users tap the screen once to bring up a blue circle which can then be dragged around the screen to where it is needed. Tapping either side of the circle will move the cursor left or right by one character.

Other improvements include landscape support for the calendar, easier international dialling and improved red-eye reduction in the photo editor.

BlackBerry Z10 users will receive an alert in the notification section of the BlackBerry Hub when the Blackberry 10.1 is ready to download, although users can also check the software updates section of the settings menu.

Skype has also announced that its VoIP service will be coming to the BlackBerry Z10 for the first time, having already been available as a preview version on the QWERTY-based BlackBerry Q10.

The Z10 and Q10 were the first smartphones to be released running the BlackBerry 10 platform, with the Canadian manufacturer revealing the mid-range BlackBerry Q5 at the BlackBerry Live event in Orlando earlier this week.
