Retro gaming fans may soon be able to bring back treasured memories as one of the industry’s most iconic names prepares to launch its first smartphone.
Commodore, best known for its Commodore 64 games console, is set to release an Android smartphone later this year that will bring the company’s iconic gaming experience to your pocket.
The Commodore PET runs a custom version of Android 5.0 Lollipop and lets you play both old Commodore 64 and Amiga games with its preinstalled VICE C64 and Uae4All2-SDL Amiga emulators.
It also includes some specs for the phone, which will feature a 5.5 inch IPS screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution, 8 megapixel front and 13 megapixel rear cameras.
Inside, there’s a 1.7GHz MediaTek octa-core processor, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, a 3000mAh battery, and the ability to use two SIMs for 4G LTE connections.
The PET will reportedly cost $300 (£192) for the basic 16GB/2GB model, with the 32GB/3GB RAM model costing around $365 (£234). It will initially be available to buy first to customers in France, Germany, Italy and Poland, with other markets coming soon.

The Commodore 64 was not a game console! It was a full-fledged home computer, comparable to the Apple II or the Atari 800.
Commodore was also known for making micro computers in the early days. In fact Pet was the name of one of their first micro computers.
Commodore 64 'games console?" Seriously? The C64 was one of the seminal home computers of the early 80s. Until the Amiga came along, the C64 was the computer we all wanted. Awesome sprite graphics, awesome sound chip. Many of the great developers of my generation cut their teeth programming in 6502 assembly on the C64. It's not a bloody games console. Pffffftt!
