ZTE Announces Intel-powered ZTE Geek Smartphone

ZTE has revealed the Intel Atom-powered ZTE Geek Android smartphone at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing.

The ZTE Geek features 8GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It boasts a five-inch HD screen, an eight megapixel rear facing camera and one megapixel front facing camera.

The Chinese manufacturers says that the ZTE Geek’s 2GHz Clover Trail+ processor offers twice the speed for computing than Intel’s previous chip and is thrice as fast for graphics. It also promises to reduce power consumption. No information about UK availability or pricing has been revealed.

“Our recent collaboration with Intel on the ZTE Geek builds on the success of the Grand Series and further enhances our competitiveness in the high-end smartphone market,” said ZTE EVP and Head of the Mobile Devices Division, He Shiyou. “This partnership will also improve customer experiences by providing them with more choices in the market.”

ZTE,the world’s fourth largest smartphone manufacturer,  has previously worked with Intel before on the ZTE Grand X IN land revealed two new smartphones at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in February.

The 5.7-inch Grand Memo is aimed at the upper end of the market, running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and packing a quad-core Qualcomm 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It is currently pencilled on for a release during the second quarter. The ZTE Open is the first device to run Mozilla’s Firefox OS and will apparently launch on Telefonica operators in Spain, Venezuela and Colombia in mid-2013.
