Vodafone 4G Spreads Across Greater London

The protracted arrival of 4G networks in the UK continues with the news that Vodafone has increased its LTE network footprint in the greater London area and the surrounding environs.

The Vodafone 4G network is now live in more than 80 towns and districts around London and now has more than 100,000 users.

The network has now spread to Harlow in the north to Dorking in the south and from Dartford in the east to Windsor in the west. And looking beyond London the operator also promised that its 4G network would hit Liverpool on 17 October and Glasgow on 24 October.

Vodafone 4G  is already live in Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield and is expected to reach Bradford, Edinburgh, Leeds and Newcastle by the end of 2013. The operator added it was “on track for 98 percent population coverage by 2015.”

Vodafone also pointed to research that suggested that 4G networks helps businesses by boosting productivity. According to its research, almost nine out of ten business leaders (86 percent) believe 4G will increase staff productivity by providing a genuine ‘in-office’ experience wherever they are.

“We’re giving people a reason to get excited about ultrafast 4G and more than 100,000 have already joined in. They’re getting closer to the action with Sky Sports or enjoying the tracks they want from the more than 20 million available on Spotify,” said Guy Laurence, chief executive of Vodafone UK.

“We’re also giving busy businesses a boost by helping them take their office with them when they’re out and about,” Laurence. “We’ve been switching on a new site in the London area every half an hour and now people in more than 80 towns and districts can enjoy Vodafone ultrafast 4G.”

EE 4G was the first major UK operator to launch an LTE service last year, with O2 and Vodafone following suit in August. Three is expected to launch its own 4G offering in December, at no extra cost to new and existing customers.
