Sony Xperia Tablet Z Unveiled For Japanese Market

Sony has revealed a new tablet, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, which will be released in its native Japan this spring.

The 10.1-inch waterproof and dustproof tablet weighs in at just 495 grams and is only 6.9mm thick. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and runs version Android version 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The entertainment potential of the Xperia Tablet Z is boosted by a ‘Reality Display’ which enables high-brightness and high-definition video, while the 8.1 megapixel camera compares favourably with its rivals.

There’s also feature support for Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks and Near Field Communication (NFC), while it also promises to allow users to easily stream and transmit photos and music wirelessly.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be available in black and white varieties, but it is currently intended for the Japanese market with no UK release information available at present.

Sony’s latest tablet offering, the Sony Xperia Tablet S, was unveiled in August, packing a 9.4-inch screen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a 9.4 inch screen. It was also intended to be water resistant, but it was recalled in October after Sony discovered a hardware flaw that left some tablets susceptible to water damage.

Other recent Android tablets from the Japanese manufacturer include the 9.4-inch wedge-like Sony Tablet S and the clamshell Sony Tablet P, which boasted two 5.5-inch displays that could be folded closed.
