MWC 2017: Samsung Galaxy S8 Set To Debut On 29 March

The Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone will be announced on 29 March at the company’s Unpacked event.

The company all but confirmed the successor to the flagship Galaxy S7 would be revealed next month, promising to show off levels of smartphone innovation previously unseen.

The device should have been at Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is taking place this week in Barcelona, but plans for the launch were reportedly shelved because of the battery incidents that led to millions of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units being recalled late last year.

At the event, Samsung promised to learn every lesson possible from the debacle and said it had introduced new testing measures to avoid a repeat.

“The past six months have undoubtedly been one of the most challenging periods in  our history,” admitted David Lowes, chief marketing officer for Samsung in Europe. “We did not meet the high standards of quality and excellence we expect from our selves. We will learn every lesson possible and understand regaining consumer trust can only be achieved through actions not words.”

Instead, the company showed off two new tablets: the flagship Galaxy Tab S3 and the Windows 10-powered 2 in 1 the Galaxy Book. It also detailed it plans for 5G and a new controiller for its Samsung Gear VR headset.
