Tech Quiz: Video Game Technology

This week marked 15 years since Microsoft released the original Xbox in the UK.

It was big, it used standard desktop PC components, and only recorded modest sales figures, but the company’s entry into the market was hugely significant.

It made online gaming mainstream and helped increase the influence of Western hardware and software developers. Most importantly, it had a killer app in the form of Halo and a catalogue of good games.

Ultimately, Microsoft became Sony’s greatest competitor, and when the Xbox 360 arrived in 2005, it was a huge success.
