Operators Suggest November Nokia Lumia 920 Release Date

The Nokia Lumia 920 could be released in Europe in November, according to a number of European mobile operators.

Nokia unveiled its new flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone earlier this week, but neglected to provide any details about pricing or a release date.

However it is being reported that the device will hit shelves before the vital Christmas period, but after the anticipated release of the iPhone 5, which will almost certainly be announced next week in San Francisco.

Nokia Lumia 920 Release Date

Executives at one Eastern European telecoms operator told Reuters that they would start selling the smartphone in the second half of November, with larger countries receiving the handset earlier that month.

It is also believed that Nokia has cut the prices of its older devices, however they will prove hard to shift as they will not be compatible with Windows Phone 8.

The Lumia 920 is powered by a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and features 1GB or RAM, 32GB of storage, an 8.7 megapixel camera and a 4.5-inch Pure Motion+ HD screen. It supports 4G networks, Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and even wireless charging.

It is seen as vital to the future of Nokia, which has lost ground in the smartphone arena to the likes of Apple and Samsung. It announced losses of £1.1 billion earlier this year and is currently undergoing a restructuring programme.

It is hoping to reduce is workforce by around 10,000 and has shed a number of non-core assets, including its luxury pone subsidiary, Vertu.

Nokia told TechWeekEurope that it had no comment on the matter.
