Reports: Nokia 929 Coming In White And Black

Images appearing to show Nokia’s upcoming Lumia 929 Windows smartphone have appeared on Twitter, indicating possible features including a 20-megapixel camera and white and black versions.

The images, posted on the @evleaks account – a source of previous Lumia leaks – indicate that the device is branded for the US’ Verizon network. A large number of screen tiles indicate a high-resolution 1080p display.

What appears to be a press image of the back of the device, posted later on the same account, indicates a 20-megapixel camera along with PureView branding, used for Nokia’s top-range smartphone cameras.

The most recent images show a black device, but Evleaks tweeted that the device is “also coming in white”. Photographs of the back of what appeared to be a white version of the same device leaked earlier this month.

Nokia is currently in the process of becoming a Microsoft subsidiary, and outgoing Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer indicated at a recent presentation for financial analysts that the company’s mobile strategy is central to its future.

The Lumia 929 is understood to be a variant of the upcoming Lumia 1520, which is expected to have a 1080p display resolution and a 6-inch screen, making it the largest Windows Phone device to date.

Reports have indicated the 1520 may have a 16-megapixel camera and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a feature confirmed on the official Snapdragon Twitter account in a tweet that was deleted shortly afterward.

The Lumia 929 may have a smaller screen than the Lumia 1520 – possibly about 5 inches – but appears to have the same 1080p resolution, according to reports. Both devices, along with a 10.1-inch Lumia 2520 Windows RT tablet, are expected to launch at an event that was originally scheduled for late September but has now been pushed back to later in the autumn, possibly 22 October.
