Apple Promises iOS 8.0.2 Will Fix Cellular, Touch ID And HealthKit Issues

Apple has released another update for iOS that promises to restore mobile signal and TouchID functionality to iPhone and 6 Plus users who downloaded the previous, flawed version of the mobile operating system.

iOS 8.0.1 was rolled out earlier this week with the intention of ironing out a few bugs in iOS 8, most notably one affecting the HealthKit framework and prevented many of the health and fitness features from working on launch day.

iOS 8.0.2 update

However it became apparent that the software was making problems worse for iPhone 6 users, who were unable to make calls or use their device’s fingerprint sensor. Apple apologised and provided instructions on how to downgrade to iOS 8, with the promise that a further update was imminent.

The company has been true to its word and iOS 8.0.2 not only fixes HealthKit, but also the problems introduced by the earlier version. iOS 8.0.2 also fixes problems with third party keyboard support, the photo application and Safari while it also fixes an issue that could result in unexpected data use when receiving SMS or MMS messages.

Apple will hope iOS 8.0.2 puts to rest what has been a less than smooth launch of iOS 8. The aforementioned issues only affected the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, both of which were launched in the UK last month.

However, software updates alone may not ease the concerns of iPhone 6 Plus owners after reports that the larger smartphone bends when carried for long periods in trouser pockets.
