Facebook Snaps Up App Optimisation Developer Little Eye Labs

Facebook has signalled a move to take its mobile activities to a new level by announcing that it has bought Bangalore-based app developer Little Eye Labs, reportedly for around $15 million.

In a blog post, the developer confirmed the acquisition, stating that its entire team will now be moving to Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

Founded just over a year ago, Little Eye Labs develops and builds performance analysis and monitoring tools for mobile Android apps. The company released the first version of its Little Eye for Android software in April, and says many Android developers and testers have adopted the tools to ‘measure, analyse, and optimise their app’s performance’.

Boosting its mobile operations

Little Eye Labs has assured existing users of its products that it will be releasing a free version of the tool, available until 30 June.

The company already has economic support from several Indian venture capital funds, but Facebook’s investment will help Little Eye to move to the next level, giving it access to the social network’s one billion users. The deal is also Facebook’s first in India, and may prove useful in promoting the country and boosting interest in its technology start-ups.

“The Little Eye Labs technology will help us to continue improving our Android codebase to make more efficient, higher-performing apps,” Subbu Subramanian, Facebook’s engineering manager, said of the partnership.
