BlackBerry Khan $2k Smartphone Gets Release Date

BlackBerry will launch a luxury device codenamed Khan this autumn, along with its new Passport smartphone.

The Khan device is rumoured to be the next smartphone in BlackBerry’s luxury Porsche range. Details of the release date were uncovered when BlackBerry’s 2014 roadmap was supposedly leaked online at N4BB.com.

The website claimed that the document described four device types targeted at four different market segments – affordable devices for ambitious youngsters in the corporate office; classic devices for older, traditional BlackBerry customers; innovative devices for younger executives; and prestige devices for extravagant individuals.

The innovative section of the roadmap is illustrated by the BlackBerry Passport, still going by the codename ‘Windermere’. BlackBerry had previously confirmed this device would be released in September.

Although the company has not confirmed the launch date of Khan, its latest prestige model, the roadmap timeline indicates suggests it will be also be launched in autumn.

The device is expectd to be the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9983 – a follow up to 2013’s BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9982 luxury smartphone.

It should have 3GB RAM, a Dual-core 1.7GHz CPU, 64GB of storagea and a 3.5 inch touchscreen, according to N4BB. The website also stated the device would be priced at $2,000.

The Blackberry 10.3 operating system and Blend software is set for release at the same time as the Passport and Khan, according to N4BB.
