IoTUK Seeks Three Partners To Support London’s LPWAN Rollout

The Digital Catapult’s IoTUK Boost programme has issued a open call for three partners to help it rollout the LPWAN network needed to support its London Internet of Things (IoT) initiative.

Following the launch of the Digital Catapult Things Connected initiative, which gives startups working on machine-to-machine products and applications free access to an IoT network in the capital, IoTUK now needs partner companies to helps fully establish the network and help set up IoT experimentation testbeds across the UK.

IoT LPWAN rollout

Partners of the programme will receive £30,000 each to support the rollout and the communications and promotional activity needed to encourage awareness of the network and participation in the testbeds. Furthermore, the partner companies will also need to provide guidance and support for the design and implementation of the programme.

The partners will also need to provide support for training packages to get statup started-up on the network and participate on workshops to fuel the use of the testbeds. Finally, they will also need to ensure that academic knowledge is incorporated into the testbed environments so that the startups have access to cutting-edge research.

That may seem like a lot to expect from a relatively small monetary sum. But the partners will get to participate in the creation of the next wave of IoT devices, services and products, which should give them an insight into what to invest in and shape the startups to develop around their services rather than those of rivals not participating in the IoTUK Boost programme.

The Digital Catapults and the initiatives they have stemmed have for some time sought out private sector partners to help fuel the development of the UK’s technology sector, with notable supporters including PwC and Visa.
