Huawei.-subsidiary Honor has unveiled its most powerful smartphone to date, the Honor V8, which at first glance looks like a cut price version of its parent’s recently announced Huawei P9.
The device will go one sale next week in China, and will be available in platinum gold, rose gold, champagne gold, and glacier silver – however there are only details about the Chinese prices for now.
Available in either single or dual-SIM flavours, the V8 will be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 955 chipset alongside 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB storage. Backing this up is an impressive 3,500mAh battery which Honor says should provide all-day use. The battery is recharged using USB-C connectivity.
As for cameras, the V8 is the first Honor device to feature dual lenses on the rear, where two 12MP lenses should provide richer photos than ever before – although they aren’t the Leica prdoucts seen in the Huawei P9. They’re joined by an 8MP front camera that is capable of recording 1080p video, which should be perfect for videoconferencing.
Unlocking is done by a fingerprint sensor on the rear, and software is a mix of Android 6.0 Marshmallow backed up by Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 user interface.
Huawei has released a number of smartphones under the Honor brand since it debuted in October 2014 and has traditionally targeted the lower end of the market with feature rich devices.
