Up to 1.5 million Three customers were without service on Monday April 6 following an electrical failure at a data centre in Ireland.
A Three spokesperson told The Irish Independent.: “Some customers are currently experiencing intermittent 2G and 3G service issues.”
“This has occurred due to an electrical failure at one of our data centres which caused an increase in temperature in the building and then subsequently impacted some systems affecting customer service.”
Three has around 2 million customers in Ireland, and is now the country’s second largest mobile network provider following 2014’s O2 acquisition. Tesco Mobile users were also affected, as the firm uses Three’s network.
Reports from Twitter suggest that it was former O2 customers who were worst affected by the meltdown, while Twitter user @dadoffay said that the search for a lost child at an Easter Egg hunt at Ardgillan Castle was delayed because of the network failure.
“We’re aware that customers may be having service issues. Work to resolve this will continue tonight.”
This morning, Three said services are back online. TechWeekEurope has requested information from Three regarding the technical aspects of the data centre failure, a reply is pending.
