Introducing Britain’s First 4G Phones

If Britain’s 4G network is to be successful, it will need handset manufacturers to push out attractive compatible devices: 4G phones that consumers and businesses can get excited about.

EE, which officially launched the UK’s first 4G network today, knows that. It showed off a number of phones able to load content over 4G, and TechWeekEurope got to play around with one of them – the HTC One XL – to see what 4G phones could do. Given the phone has a 1.5GHz dual core processor and HD video functionality, it was unsurprisingly slick, as these videos of the device running iPlayer and YouTube show.

The other devices that EE will be offering include Samsung Galaxy SIII LTE, Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 820, HTC One XL and Huawei Ascend P1 LTE. Check out the gallery below to see what they look like.

Interestingly, the release EE sent out to journalists today indicated the Samsung Galaxy SIII device would be delivered with Android 4.1, better known as Jelly Bean. That would indicate Samsung is planning a big roll out of Google’s latest OS to users of its massively popular smartphone.

Troubled mobile giant Nokia will be hoping the LTE connectivity of its two devices, which were announced just last week, will help it get some extra sales in the UK.
