Vodafone And Arrow Electronics Team-Up To Mix IoT Tech

Vodafone and Arrow Electronics have teamed up to work on their Internet of Things (IoT) tech into packages of network services and connected modules.

The partnership will see Vodafone integrate its IoT tech, notably on the network and connectivity side, into Arrow’s IoT Things eVolved initiative, which provides dedicated IoT modules and developer kits.

As part of the eVolved initiative, Arrow will now sell Vodafone’s global IoT SIM and offer the telecoms company’s managed connectivity services as hardware and software packages for enterprises, original equipment manufacturers, and tech suppliers to build, deploy and manage smart connected systems. Arrow will also be marketing and reselling network services from Vodafone tailored for customer applications.

“A strong ecosystem will be a significant driver to the future success of the IoT and we believe that relationships like this with Arrow Electronics will help to shape the sector,” said Vodafone’s IoT director Ivo Rook.

Arrow Electronics’ vice president of IoT Global Solutions, Aiden Mitchell, echoed Rook’s partnership sentiments.

“We are all about providing the best components and the best service to our customers. Vodafone is a committed leader in IoT. We believe that this will be a relationship that will go from strength to strength,” he said.

The mix of IoT technologies form both companies will effectively bring together the network coverage, wireless and embedded edge technology and connectivity, cloud, system and data integration capabilities needed for setting up and deploying IoT networks on a scale beyond that of a smart home.

As the IoT starts to accelerate its growth and present more compelling use cases in real-world to suit everyday life, it becomes apparent that while the technology is ready, the potential complexity of large IoT networks need partnerships between technology firms to ensure complete IoT systems and packages can be brought to the market.

Vodafone has already proved that it can put its IoT networking technology into action, through working with the Sea Mammal Research Unit to help track Harbour Seals in Scotland’s Orkney islands.
