Cut to the Quick of IT Power Recommendations

In recent months, IT and business professionals have been flooded with advice on how to drive down power costs, impulse energy efficiencies and save cost in the light of the latest innovations and technologies available on the market. We all know now that by reducing computers and monitors to a low-power state during periods of limited use, and virtualising desktops and servers, companies can dramatically reduce energy costs and carbon footprints. But what’s really the best way to go about doing it?

At BrightTalk’s virtual conference on IT Power Management, Tuessday 18th August, leading consultants Mike Walker of Beacon Consultants Network and Josh Krishner of Josh Krishner & Associates will endeavour to cut through the information overload and share with users how to establish best practices, assess rival technologies and learn from the common mistakes of others.

Backed by the British Computer Society and Computer Aid International, the event will also feature a keynote presentation by Anja Ffrench on the most socially and environmentally-responsible ways of disposing of and upgrading IT infrastructure: the benefits of reuse vs. recycling, how to ensure WEEE and legal compliance, how to ensure full data removal from unwanted equipment and how your company’s PR and CSR image could stand to benefit from the decisions IT staff make on this issue.

Finally, to follow up on the best practices issue and to answer the serious question of whether manufacturers are really putting their money where their mouth is, Phil Morris, Chief Technologist of Data Center Efficiency Services, has volunteered to take the hot seat and present what Sun Microsystems is doing live online at 5 pm UK time.
