Is Apple Pay Coming To The UK Soon?

Apple’s mobile payment service could be coming to the UK sooner than expected, according to an advert reported to be from the company.

A job posting from Apple for an intern based in London said that Apple Pay, which allows iPhone users to quickly pay for goods using their device, will soon be rolling out in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa

The advert was quickly pulled, but would seem to suggest that the service could be launching in the UK within the next few months, following its launch in the United States earlier this year.

Expansion

“Apple Pay is a new and exciting area in Apple that is set to expand across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa,” the posting read.

“Apple Pay will change the way consumers pay with breakthrough contactless payment technology and unique security features built right into their iPhone 6 or Apple Watch to pay in an easy, secure, and private way.”

“The new London-based Apple Pay team will work to drive the roll-out of this technology across EMEIA by working with a variety of internal and external partners, including teams in the US where the product will first launch and the EMEIA organisation, as well as Issuers, payment networks and merchants across Europe.”

Apple Pay was announced alongside the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus back in September, and signed up a million subscribers in just its first three days of use. The service, which is currently available for use within 90 per cent of shops and banks across the US, looks to replace a customer’s debit or credit card using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology built into the phone, with security provided by the device’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Traditional payment replaced by tapping on a compatible reader, with a vibration informing the user if the payment has been successful.
