Tourists travelling to the UK will be able to get access to free Wi-Fi whilst on their travels thanks to a new partnership from network provider The Cloud.
The company, which has around nine million registered users, has signed up with MasterCard to launch a new mobile app which will connect visitors to around 22,000 free hotspots around the country. This means that they will be able to surf the internet and access social media without running up huge costs.
The app, part of MasterCard’s Priceless Cities programme, offers deals and promotions based on a user’s location, and also includes a useful Wi-Fi GPS locator to help users find their way to the nearest hotspots.
The MasterCard Priceless London Wi-Fi app can be downloaded by MasterCard customers with Android and iOS devices from today. However, users will need to download the app and register their device in their home country before they travel.
“The app The Cloud has developed allows our cardholders not only to benefit from free Wi-Fi when they travel to London but also access a wide range of offers and experiences available on the Priceless London program,” said Charles Clement-Cottuz, program manager, digital marketing Europe at MasterCard.
“This service is very much appreciated by our cardholders as it allows them to use all their mobile based essential services such as maps, reviews and social networks at no cost as well as giving them access to experiences that can make their trip truly Priceless”.
The Cloud is well-established to connect visitors to the UK, particularly in London, where it currently provides a free Wi-Fi network across the City, allowing workers, residents and tourists unlimited access to wireless Internet. It also supplies free Wi-Fi across the London Overground train network.
