Guillame Field from Dell says the 8-inch mobile device makes a perfect tool for business
Dell is one of a number of traditional PC vendors which are slowly switching from the desktop and laptop formats to tablets and all-in-ones. This week, the company brought its wares to Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry.
Our colleagues from Gizmodo.de have interviewed Guillame Field, marketing manager for EMEA at Dell, to find out more about the business use cases for Dell’s 8-inch tablet, which started shipping to customers in Europe earlier this week.
“The way forward”
The Venue 8 Pro is based on a quad-core Atom Z processor, which enables the tiny tablet to run fully-featured Windows 8.1. Last year, Dell CEO Michael Dell called Windows RT “a mistake” and the new Intel chips are helping the industry move away from Microsoft’s ARM-based experiment.
In the video below, Field talks about visual design, technical specifications, backwards compatibility and accessories for the device. He says that a few years ago, computers this light and yet this powerful would cost upwards of £1,000, mostly aimed at corporate executives. Today, the Venue 8 Pro will set you back around £240.
The Venue 8 Pro features an HD screen, 2GB of RAM, either 32GB or 64GB of internal flash memory, front and rear cameras, microSD card slot and optional 4G connectivity. It ships with a magnetically locking keyboard, and is already available in the UK. Field also mentions the Venue 11 Pro tablet, which features Intel Core i3 and i5 processors and up to 8GB of RAM.
