Apple Shifts 10m iPhone 6 And iPhone 6 Plus Devices In Three Days

Apple sold ten million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices during the first weekend they were on sale in eight countries, including the UK.

The Cupertino-based company received a record four million pre-orders prior to the smartphone’s launch on Friday and shifted an additional six million units since Friday.

CEO Tim Cook says the figures exceeded Apple’s expectations and it is optimistic it can sell even more as the handsets are released around the world.

“We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin,” he claimed. “While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

Apple promised that a “significant amount” of pre-orders would be fulfilled on launch day with the majority delivered during September, but admitted some would not get their new smartphone until October.

Stock was held back for the UK launch, along with the devices’ release in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore in the US, but Apple promised a “significant amount” of pre-orders would be fulfilled on launch day, with most receiving their handsets during September, although some would have to wait until October.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be released in 20 more countries on Friday and 115 by the end of 2014. The next wave of nations are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.

The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus were announced by the firm last week. Both feature Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, retina HD displays, a more powerful A8 processor and improved camera functionality, while they are both compatible with the Apple Watch which also made its debut in California.
