HTC Wants Businesses To Swap Their BlackBerry For A Nexus 9

HTC has signalled it intends to target businesses as well as consumers with the launch of its upcoming Nexus 9 tablet, which the company built in partnership with Google.

The Taiwanese company has signed up Tech Data, a major player in the UK technology distribution market, for its business targeting contract, as it looks to target the growing number of business tablet users, who find the devices useful to work on when travelling away from the office.

The Nexus 9 features a selection of business-focused services and apps thanks to the latest version of Android, Lollipop 5.0. This includes features such as automatic encryption to protect confidential data and SmartLock, which lets a user pair their tablet to a trusted device such as a smartwatch or connected car for extra security.

Strong competition

Commenting on the appointment, HTC’s European sales director, Hervé Fontaine, stated: “With its established reputation and reach in the B2B sector, a growing presence in the consumer market and a focused and dedicated approach to tablet business development, Tech Data is the ideal distribution partner for the Nexus 9, designed by HTC.”

The company said it won the HTC contract amidst “strong competition from other mobile distributors” and that it believed the “enhanced apps performance and features” on the Nexus 9 tablet would attract both consumer and enterprise customers.

The Nexus 9, which features an 8.9in HD display capable of displaying 2K video and 8MP rear camera powered by a 2.3GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra processor,  is due to go on sale in the UK next week.

HTC has enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent months following a period of turmoil, reporting a second successive quarter of profits earlier this month.  However, this did include a decline in year-to-date revenue through September, which was down 13 percent to NT$140bn (£2.8bn).
