Samsung Readying Galaxy Tab 2 For June Launch?

Samsung could be set to kick-start the tablet market with a new device which could finally topple Apple’s iPad.

The company is reportedly gearing up to launch two new Galaxy Tab S devices to take on the might of Apple, with an 8in and 9.7in devices possibly appearing as early as next month, according to sources talking to Sammobile.

Both devices will come in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + LTE variants, meaning four lots in all, and hark back to the original Galaxy Tab S (pictured above) with a June reveal and worldwide availability.

Pumped up

According to the reports, both versions of the Galaxy Tab S2 will feature premium components and high-end specifications.

Featuring an all-metal build, the tablet is expected to feature a 64-bit Exynos processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, microSD card slot, Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, Samsung’s in-house modem with Cat. 6 LTE (300Mbps), 8MP rear camera, and 2.1MP front camera.

The 8 inch model will have dimensions of 198.2 × 134.5 × 5.4 mm, weighing in at 260g, with the 9.7 inch model measuring up at 237.1 × 168.8 × 5.4 mm, and 407 grams.

The new tablets could also feature the fruits of another one of Samsung’s big-name partnerships. In March that the company signed a deal to pre-install with Microsoft mobile applications in Samsung tablets.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype will be available to consumers, while tablets sold through Samsung’s enterprise channels will also have access to the Business, Business Premium and Enterprise versions of Office 365

This move should help Samsung and Microsoft better compete with the likes of IBM and Apple, which are teaming up to provide iPads and applications to the former’s business customers.
