Cloud Expo Europe is one of the biggest events in the cloud calendar, and Silicon was there in force to see how the world of the cloud is evolving and the way firms are using it to push their digital transformation doctrines.
But the expo also covered the Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber security in relation to the cloud and connected devices.
The first day was a bustle of activity so we took time to reflect on what caught out attention across the suite of expos nestled in the London’s Excel centre.
Editor in Chief Steve McCaskill had his attention caught by discussions around the evolution of smart cities and the challenges and advantages to injecting more connectivity, communications and machine intelligence into urban areas.
Reporter Sam Pudwell attended a talk by carmaker McLaren’s chief information officer Craig Charlton, who outlined how the company’s Formula One uses tech like biometrics analysis and speedy Wi-Fi to give its race team a competitive edge.
And News Editor Roland Moore-Colyer heard how cyber security cannot be an afterthought when it comes to the creation of smart buildings, according to Stuart Higgins, head of smart cities and IoT at Cisco.
