Huawei Credits Strong 4G Demand For 19 Percent Rise In Revenues

Chinese network equipment manufacturer says LTE equipment and consumer device sales have contributed to strong sales during the first half of 2014

Huawei has attributed a 19 percent increase in sales revenue to strong demand for its 4G network equipment from operators and to rising awareness of its consumer smartphones.

The Chinese firm generated revenues of 135.8 billion Yuan (£12.8bn) during the first half of 2014 and says its figures have been in line with its expectations.

“Driven by increasing investments in LTE networks worldwide, Huawei has further solidified its leadership position in mobile broadband,” says Huawei CFO Cathy Meng. “Rapid growth in software and services helped maintain steady growth in our carrier network business. Our efforts in the enterprise business have begun to pay off. We have enjoyed accelerated growth in this area.

Although the initial wave of LTE deployments in Japan, South Korea and the USA favoured European manufacturers such as Ericsson and Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN), Huawei has since been very successful in picking up orders in Europe and elsewhere.

Huawei has won more than 217 commercial LTE contracts and has deployed 102 networks across the world – more than any vendor. The Shenzhen-based company is also investing £374 million into the research of 5G, while has also held 2.6GHz small cell and 10Gbps Wi-Fi trials as it continues to explore alternative wireless technologies.

However it is unlikely to receive much custom in the US, where government fears over the company’s links to the Chinese military have seen it targeted by lawmakers and regulators.
