EE 4G SIM Only Plans Now Available After Delay

EE 4G SIM only plans are now available to purchase following a two-week delay. EE had postponed the launch of the contracts earlier this month due to delays in testing.

The UK’s first commercial 4G network began operating earlier this month after EE was given permission to launch an LTE service on its existing spectrum.

EE 4G SIM-only plans go live

“We’re really pleased to announce our superfast 4GEE SIM-only plans have launched today for customers,” an EE spokesperson told TechWeekEurope. “They are available initially to buy online or over the phone through our customer services team.

“They will also soon be available in store and we’ll confirm a start date very shortly. The 12-month plans are £15 per month cheaper than our 24 month plans that include handsets – customers just need to pick their data plan.”

The cheapest EE 4G SIM-only plan costs £21 a month for one year with a 500MB monthly data allowance. It costs £26 a month for 1GB, £31 for 3GB and £36 a month for a 5GB allowance.

The entry-level handset price plan is £36 a month for just 500MB, with no unlimited data bundles available. CEO Olaf Swantee has defended the network’s 4G pricing plans, although he has admitted that the feedback on social networks was “quite interesting”.

EE 4G is currently available in ten cities, London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Glasgow, with another six due to come online before Christmas.

Most other UK mobile networks are expected to launch LTE services in the first quarter of 2013, once the sale of spectrum has been completed, although Three has said it will not do so until next September.
