Asus Eee Pad Slider Delayed Until June
Brits who plan to buy Asus’s Slider tablet will have to wait until June, due to shipment delays
Asus’s Eee Pad Slider tablet will not arrive in the UK until June, the company has revealed, while confirming an April rollout for the Transformer slate.
On 28 February, Asus announced it would roll out three versions of tablets to the UK in April, including the Windows 7-powered Eee Pad 121, the Eee Pad Slider and the Eee Pad Transformer, both powered by Google’s Android.
However, according to a report by the Inquirer, the Taiwanese firm said only the 10.1-inch Transformer will enter the UK market in April as initially planned, while the Slider’s shipment has been postponed to June, the expected date for its 7-inch Eee Memo tablet.
3G reserved for higher specification
The Eee Pad Slider will feature a slide-out Qwerty keyboard while the Eee Pad Transformer will come with a removable keyboard. Both will support Wi-Fi and have an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor as well as an Nvidia graphics chip.
The Slider will also sport a 1.2 Megapixel front-facing camera and a 5 mega-pixel rear-facing camera.
As for the Windows 7 model, it will come with a 12.1-inch 1280 x 800 LED touch-screen display and support Bluetooth. The device will be distributed by PC World and Currys in the UK.
According to Asus, “3G will come with the higher specification models [for all three tablets]”.
Asus has yet to confirm what version of Android operating system will power its Transformer and Slider slates, but both models are expected to run Android 3.0 – codenamed Honeycomb – which has been optimised for tablets.
