“I’m really excited about being part of the organization because Managed Detection and Response is really something healthcare organizations need,” said DeFord. “There aren’t enough good security people to go around. There really should be services that CIOs and CISOs can buy that let them focus on the security program and not make them focus on tools that they can’t really use.” DeFord continues, “Sometimes it’s because they’ve been derailed by a MSSP into buying technologies they can’t handle. They are mired in tasks but still don’t have the staff they need to run the security program.”

DeFord brings over two decades of experience as a CIO with a career spanning both coasts and the military. DeFord is the former CIO at Scripps Health, Seattle Children’s, Steward Healthcare, & the U.S. Air Force. Today, DeFord works with CI Security, serves as vCISO for Boston Children’s Hospital, and consults with enterprise healthcare organizations with his company, Drexio Digital Health.

DeFord has also spent time supporting the healthcare industry with his expertise. He is the Past-Chair of CHIME’s Board of Trustees, and he has served on the HIMSS National Board.

CI Security provides healthcare organizations with Managed Detection and Response (MDR). Critical Insight MDR defends medical providers and health-related businesses against cyber intrusions. Security analysts leverage technology to monitor networks and hunt for threats 24/7/365.

“We are thrilled to have Drex join our team and mission to serve hospitals, physician practices, and health-facing organizations with better cybersecurity solutions,” said CEO Garrett Silver. “With Drex’s focus on helping healthcare providers evolve information technology to advance patient care, we know he will be a valuable contributor to advancing our mission at CI Security.”

“I’ve been in the CIO’s shoes for more than 25 years at some of the nation’s most respected health systems,” said DeFord. “From strained resources to the pressure to differentiate services, I understand the competing priorities to deliver better, faster, cheaper, safer, easier-to-access care. I look forward to working with CI Security’s customers and future clients to help them improve their cybersecurity program amid seismic changes in our industry.”
