TransPerfect, the world’s largest provider of language and technology solutions for global business, today publicly praised the State of Delaware and Governor John Carney for nominating Vice Chancellor Tamika Montgomery-Reeves to the Delaware State Supreme Court. If confirmed during a special state Senate session held November 7, Montgomery-Reeves would become the first African-American and the third woman ever to serve on Delaware’s high court.

In recent months, TransPerfect, as well as many of its employees in their roles as private citizens, have called for Delaware to prioritize diversity during the vetting and nomination process for a new justice to fill the spot vacated by Justice Collins Seitz. Seitz was recently named Chief Justice, replacing the retiring Justice Leo Strine.

Diversity has always been a source of strength for TransPerfect. It is one of the company’s ten core values and has been embraced and celebrated worldwide as a vital element to the company’s success. With 5000+ employees across more than 100 offices, the wide array of backgrounds and variances in experience, beliefs, and values are what has led the company to be innovative, empathetic, and a leader in its industry.

TransPerfect President and CEO Phil Shawe stated, “An equitable, unbiased, and fair judiciary depends on the diversity of its members to most appropriately consider, interpret, and apply the law. Our belief is that the composition of the court to this point did not present a variety in backgrounds and beliefs, but today we’ve seen that Delaware and Governor Carney are ready to promote change.”

Shawe continued, “I’d like to offer my sincere personal congratulations to Ms. Montgomery-Reeves on her nomination. This is an important step for diversity, but there is so much more work to be done. While the Supreme Court will now benefit from the presence of its first justice of color, the Chancery Court is now left with a vacancy that we hope will be filled with diversity in mind. We commend the Governor for his decision and look forward to advocating for these issues for years to come.”
