International Data Corporation (IDC) recently published an IDC Innovators report profiling five companies that offer compelling and differentiated computer vision software. The five companies are Algolux, Deep Vision AI, Sighthound, ViSenze, and Umbo CV.

Computer vision is an AI technology that allows computers to understand and label images. Use cases include video surveillance, driverless car testing, daily medical diagnostics, and monitoring the health of crops and livestock. AI is used for pattern recognition and learning techniques driven largely by machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms that bring visual understanding capabilities in a growing variety of hardware and software applications.

The market for computer vision (CV) is rapidly evolving, enabled by recent advancements in sensors, machine learning/deep learning, and stream processing and driven by use cases in manufacturing, retail, agriculture, public safety, and other industries. While some of the leading technology companies are investing heavily in computer vision research and product development, there are a number of smaller companies seeking to advance the capabilities and applications of computer vision.

“Computer vision is being increasingly used by many types of organizations to augment the skills of workers, automate business processes, increase efficiencies, and/or reduce costs,” said Hayley Sutherland, senior research analyst, Artificial Intelligence Software at IDC. “While some of the most mature use cases are in surveillance and public safety, organizations in automotive, insurance, retail, healthcare, agriculture, and finance should also consider adding this capability to optimize their operations.”

The report, IDC Innovators: Computer Vision Software, 2019 (IDC #US45100519), profiles five notable vendors that are providing innovative computer vision software.

Algolux applies end-to-end machine learning (ML), new computer vision (CV) architectures, and a scalable training approach to significantly improve the imaging and perception capabilities of autonomous vehicles and robots.

Deep Vision AI uses proprietary advanced computer vision technology to understand images and video automatically, enabling its software solutions to turn visual content into real-time analytics and insights.

Sighthound combines computer vision with intelligent deep neural networks to automate the blurring of people’s faces, vehicles, license plates, and other personally identifiable information to ensure privacy and compliance with regulations like GDPR.

Umbo CV offers a video security solution set capable of accurately determining the human form, labeling subjects, and comprehending the actions of identified subjects.

ViSenze enables consumers to use a photo to compare a product sold on different sites, shop matching styles using an Instagram screenshot, and activate “visual search” natively from different applications.

About IDC Innovators

IDC Innovators reports present a set of vendors – under $100 million in revenue at time of selection – chosen by an IDC analyst within a specific market that offer an innovative new technology, a groundbreaking approach to an existing issue, and/or an interesting new business model. It is not an exhaustive evaluation of all companies in a segment or a comparative ranking of the companies. Vendors in the process of being acquired by a larger company may be included in the report provided the acquisition is not finalized at the time of publication of the report. Vendors funded by venture capital firms may also be included in the report even if the venture capital firm has a financial stake in the vendor’s company.
