Code Corporation has submitted the CR2700 family of barcode readers to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the purpose of achieving Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 certification. This validation and its official listing in the NIST database under wolfSSL are expected to be completed early 2021.

FIPS certification indicates that a product reaches levels of secure encryption for use in computer systems for the purpose of ensuring security and interoperability through data encryption. This certification confirms that Code’s validated products are authorized for use in facilities under governmental management, such as medical sites, for example. “When finalized, Code’s products will be available for procurement by government medical facilities such as the Veterans Administration, military hospitals, and other government healthcare facilities,” said Bruce Scharf, Vice President of Product for Code Corporation. “Government medical organizations will benefit from not only the state-of-the-art data capture technology that is being used in the private sector, but also smart, tough disinfectant-ready hardware that enables rigorous sanitization standards by standing up to the harsh cleaning chemicals that are used in a healthcare environment.”

Code worked with invaluable partners to achieve this certification including wolfSSL, a proven software development company with a validated encryption library as well as renowned corporate security firm Corsec, which tested Code’s implementation of that library. Because of these efforts, Code can proudly state it maintains the highest integrity of FIPS 140-2 implementation.

In addition to the FIPS 140-2 security, the CR2700 line also features CodeShield® Level 3 disinfectant ready plastics on the light grey version; Bluetooth® 5 LE; IP65 Ingress Protection Rating; ergonomic design; Smart Battery technology with visual fuel gauge; visual, audible, and haptic feedback indicators; multiple programmable buttons; CortexRM® Remote Management; patented dual-field optics; and patented glare reduction.
